The Sime Family, Berry NSW

There’s something incredibly special about photographing a family in a place that holds so much of their story—and for the Sime family, that place was their home in Berry, NSW.

Ash and Oli built this home from the ground up, pouring years of their life into creating a space where their children could grow, play, and just be. It wasn’t just a house—it was the backdrop to their everyday moments, the big milestones, and all the quiet in-betweens that make up family life. Knowing they had recently sold it, and were about to step into a new chapter, made this session feel even more meaningful.

We approached the afternoon slowly, letting the kids lead, moving through the spaces that had shaped their childhood. Bare feet on the grass, climbing, laughing, exploring corners of the home that held memories only they truly know. There was no rush, no pressure—just space for them to exist as they are right now. At the same time, I was so conscious of documenting the home itself—the textures, the light, the thoughtful details Ash and Oli had created—capturing not just how it looked, but how it felt to live there.

What unfolded was a session that felt both grounded and playful. A balance of architecture and emotion. The structure of a home that had been so intentionally built, alongside the wild, beautiful energy of the children who filled it. These are the kinds of sessions that quietly hold so much weight—because they’re not just about what you see, but what you’ll remember.

Because these sessions were never meant to be about standing still, smiling at the camera, and ticking “family photos” off your list. They’re about telling your story—honestly and intentionally. Capturing the places, the people, and the season you’re in right now, so that years from now, you don’t just see it… you feel it.
